Professor María Cadaval participated in the event marking the 45th anniversary of the Statute of Autonomy of Galicia, held at the Parliament of Galicia, in a round table entitled “The Statute of Autonomy for Galicia 45 Years Later: History, Politics, Law, Economy.”

During her speech, Cadaval highlighted that Galicia’s autonomous development in recent decades represents a period of notable prosperity, largely driven by the institutional framework provided by the Statute. In this regard, she emphasized the relevance of self-government as a tool for designing public policies tailored to the needs of the territory.

She also addressed one of the main current challenges: the system of regional financing. The professor pointed out that it is more appropriate to speak of “systems” within the common regime, due to the complexity and heterogeneity of the current model, in a context marked by political tensions that hinder the adoption of stable technical solutions.

She also underscored the value of self-government as a key element in Galicia’s institutional structure, referring to the work Sempre en Galiza by Alfonso Daniel Rodríguez Castelao as a historical reflection of the construction of its own institutions and Galician cultural identity. In this context, she stressed that Galicia’s progress has taken place within the framework of its integration into Spain and Europe, advocating for a global strategy focused on attracting economic activity and fostering territorial development.

Her participation brought an economic perspective to the debate, reinforcing the importance of analyzing self-government not only from an institutional standpoint, but also from the evolution of the regional financing system.
