María Cadaval-Sampedro, researcher at the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela and member of IDEAGOV, took part in IDEAGOV-Local 2026, held on 18 September at the Pazo de Mariñán, where she contributed to the discussion on local government financing and the future of intergovernmental relations in Galicia.

The session examined different approaches to municipalities' participation in regional revenues and the role of these mechanisms within decentralised systems.
Her participation brought an academic perspective to a discussion closely connected to the main themes of the meeting, which focused on the reform of the Galician Local Administration Law (LALGA), the PICA in Galicia and the financial framework of local governments.
The programme brought together researchers, representatives of public administrations and local government representatives, allowing the different aspects of the proposed reform to be discussed from legal, financial and municipal perspectives.
Cadaval-Sampedro also took part in the closing of the meeting, together with Alberto Varela Paz and Diego Calvo, Councillor for Presidency, Justice and Sports of the Xunta de Galicia. The closing brought together some of the main themes discussed throughout the day and highlighted the importance of continued dialogue between research, public institutions and local governments.
